The 5000 Most Common Words in English

This list contains the most frequent 5000 words in the English language. k1 represents the first most common 1000 words, k2 the second most common 1000 words, k3 the third  most common 1000 words, etc. You will need to learn most of these words by heart first. Then get enough exposure to the language by reading, watching TV, attending English courses etc. to be able to see these words used in different contexts. The first 1000 words are the most important ones. They cover between 65 and 75 % of the spoken and written language.
