They think the city disappeared thousands of years ago, possibly when a tsunami struck the area and the city sank. However, there is no clear evidence that this place is really Atlantis.
The researchers also reported that people from this civilization may have survived and built new cities inland. These new places looked similar to the original city. No one is sure if this story is true, and the mystery of Atlantis continues today.
